Some RV Boondocking Days are Free... Some are Just Cheap!

They can't keep their strings goin' forever... even in the Majors... and neither can I... unless it's my string of broken, bent, worn, malfunctioning bits an' pieces of 'Stuff'! :o) That sure seems to be never ending! I think I'll just keep eliminating 'Stuff'!... less there is bein' hauled... the less there'll be to go kaflooey! :o)

Wanting to be in Ouray on the 14th, it was our plan to work our way south and west... for a couple of days... so we'd be in easy striking range to descend on that poor, unknowing, lil' town!... Only in my lengthening geezer years... I overestimated the ability of our ol' truck to master the passes and such...

Takes a lil' longer to get where I'm goin'... so the couple days... to get south... took three. the first two were freebies for our night camps... and nice spots too...

But then... that's where that 'string' broke. :o) I've not been up the road that runs twixt Gunnison and Crested Bute in... well... I don't remember! I do know it was 'fore Heidi an' I ever got together... so, it's been a while.

... and I'd never been off any of it's side roads... so when looking on a map... you see an area with all sorts of campgrounds... a fella gets to thinkin' that he'll have no problem finding an RV Boondocking camp...

That ain't always the case! Turns out... this lil' area, above Almont... is a pretty trafficed spot... and in a narrow canyon to boot. Point bein'... there just ain't anywhere to pull off by your lonesome... and no full on Fee Free camps... How-some-ever... with my precious lil' Forest Service cripple card (Golden Access)... we settled into this nice lil' camp for $6... That, I can deal with...

When it comes to 'Dining Rooms'... this is 'bout as good as a fella can do... ain't it?

After three days of movin'... more than I'd wanted to do... we'll set right here till time to head for the Wildflower shindig... now normally... a camp like this, we'd use to day trip out from... looking up the lil' back roads, with just the truck... hunting for an RV Boondocking camp we could drag the rig back in to... without all the issues of gettting it wedged twixt a rock an' a tree! :o) but this time... Spring Creek Campground will be The camp...

... and we'll just day trip looking simply to inflate our Spirits... and maybe... just do a lil' settin'! and Hey! Yesterday afternoon, I sat at the table and cut out/laid out a Journal cover... turns out it's not just a dining room... it's a leather shop too! Sweet!

Now... a word 'bout Gunnison, Colorado... I know, 'round the RV world, it's gotten a poor rep... as bein' Unfriendly to RV's... I can't say I really know why...

I'd have to say it's kind of a mixed thing. I do believe they don't want folks just parkin' all over and anywhere... but... there's a big park area, right along the main road, in front of the College... where a hoard of rigs was parked yesterday...

It's where we pulled in for a quick lunch, and where I made yesterdays post from. Rigs were pullin' in an' out the whole time we sat there... kind of an RV Rendezvous. :o)

The Deputy dog passed several times... with nary a complaint... so... I'm thinkin' as long as ya'll behave with a lil' etiquette... so will they. (I suspect maybe those that have had trouble, were a lil' careless 'bout where they parked?)

The only problem I had was trying to get fuel at a Conoco... I sat for five minutes, waiting for a spot... then pulled up behind a kid at the diesel pump... he pumped his fuel... then proceeded to wash this window... then that window... reeeeeeaaaaaalllly slowwwwwwly.... then, he climbs in... and starts cleaning the Inside! settin' there on a BUSY fuel island.

A couple bikers takin' a break looked at me grinning and shaking their heads... and I just waited... until this young $%& climbs back out... and walks inside! AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

Snap! Pop! Not no More!... I fired that cummins up and left town... Rude lil' runt...

... So... just bein' an RV in Gunnison, Colorado, don't seem to be a big deal... but... they aren't immune to the contamination of Rude behavior! :o) ... there was a time... but I got enough broke parts already...

The plan for today is to go find some pictures! and if this slow, sometimes here Verizon signal stays around... (I was surprised to have any here!) I'll post 'em... sometime 'round sunrise!

I would bet the reason Gunnison and Crested Butte are a little stand-offish is because of the hippie invasion back in the 60's and 70's. They were rude, dirty, and looking for hand-outs. They grew up to be the loud, pushy RVers. Gives the rest of us a bad name. It only takes a few. Judy
