Time for a Decision... Which Trail Do We Follow Next On This Journey?

I've got a few more days of Chores in Phoenix... and then it's time for this RV outfit to get itself back out into Far Country... It's good visiting family... but what can I say... I'm a kid made for lookin' out the door and seeing nuthin' but Open Country...

Here, surrounded by rooftops, roads, and commotion... Oh Lordy.. I'm gettin' itchy, and we ALL know what kind of problems that can create... so I better deal with it right quick!

The way we figure it... there's two trails we can use to roll out of here... One goes east... the other runs off back west... both with the ultimate, intermediate, goal of Denver in Mid to late April... Gotta see Lil' Granddaughter Jillian for a good fix... 'fore we head out on another four or five month circle...

So... which way to go?

East, and south, like down to The Chiricahuas in the Coronado National Forest... down in SE Arizona... and then work North, up through New Mexico... or back west, to somewhere around where we were, over by Bouse... from where we'd start working North toward Zion NP, and then turn East across Utah and Colorado...

The ONLY thing at issue in going east and south... is the Difficulties along the border... and seeing as the Chiricahuas start maybe two dozen miles above the border, if those problems are real... and not just inflated hysteria... I could find myself with uneeded problems...

Now... If it was just me... I'd be down there tomorrow! ... but there's less aggressive folks along for the ride... so we'll have to think about it some. My problem with it is that I'm really torqued to have to consider being effectively locked out of a beautiful part of my own country... my Home State... by a Foreign invasion, that the Feds Refuse to Stop! a Foreign invasion that has taken the life of at least one Rancher...

So... aaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!

Then just to muddy the water even more... those gol' dang fellas just south of the Mediterranean who can't ever seem to behave like mature adults, go and get everything stirred up one more time... and of course... if anybody over there even gets a sniffle, everyone on this side of the pond gets hysterical... with the price of fuel taking off like a runaway mule...

Well... at this point I'm sayin' we're still focused on Alaska II. I'm not giving that up... Yet... I figure as long as Diesel stays at or below $4.50 I can squeeze out the run... if I stretch it out over 4 months or so... maybe we'll stretch into the fifth month? We'll see...

But... if this stupidity cranks it higher than that 4 1/2 mark... I'll have to rethink things... aaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!

So... back to my chores... finish up the leather work I'm doin'... finish up re-setting the Solar Array Mounts... a couple other odds and ends...

And... decide which way the Truck will be pointing when it pulls out of Phoenix!

Not too worried about the border issues here in Nevada, but I hear you on the fuel. Already thinking about the need to fish closer to home this year if fuel creeps up towards $5.00 a gallon.

I'm rooting for you to make it up to Alaska. Can't wait to read all about it. Hopefully, the Middle East will settle down and fuel won't go too much higher.

Cross your fingers!

The diesel rates were already climbing before the Middle East crisis. (Better hope that Saudi Arabia buys off their population.) Now that diesel has been pushed into the $4 range, my expectation is that diesel will be close to if not at $5 by the end of the year. I'm planning on lots of local exploring for 2011 -- around Colorado.

Fuel got up these levels a couple years ago, for a short while... time will tell if it stays... I don't think that price will be sustainable for long... the economy is just too weak to take it... and we'll have our own lil' rebellion! :o)

... but... in the short term... It could derail plans... in which case, we'll have no option but to shorten up mileage...

And that, multiplied by all the people forced to do the same... will have a pretty harsh impact on all the places dependent on "Us" coming by... which ripples on through to the "Greater World" ... and again... eventually... unsustainable...

So... it's going to be an interesting season... and I don't hear that Fat Lady singin' yet!

I hear you my friend. Same problem with the outcome of our trip. But been planning for a couple of years and the price of gas will make me think twice, but the availability of gas may stop it in its tracks. As far as Mexico goes, I think that it is a little more then hysteria brewing down there. Especially with the number of good hard working Americans that have lost their lives. Just to be on the safe side, I would steer clear of that area. After all, there are so many other beautiful areas of this country that you could go to. Better to be safe than sorry.
shoot, if you had to take one of them out when they attacked you and yours, you would go to prison for murder, then they would sue Herself and take the bead shop away, make her sell the camper and the Raider to pay them because you protected yourself and your property from them. Crazy a-- laws in this country;
