In The Blink of an Eye...

Everything changes...

Something as simple as putting a foot wrong can have catastrophic effect. As my world crumbled around me the past year or so I fought for a new vision... a new... Life.

That's torn up now.

Dreams die hard and leave a great aching void behind when they go.

The VA... contrary to what that man in D.C. claims is not "fixed". It never will be.

Busted this shoulder up two weeks ago. Took nearly a week just to get through their phone tree to make an appointment. There's an appointment now for an MRI... more than two weeks from now... a month and some AFTER the injury - just to get a diagnoses... and they say "World Class Medical Care" - Their words - in their phone message while you wait for someone to answer...

Yeah right... well... I don't have much inclination to wait. Sitting here, feeling trapped is not doing anything good for what's left of my mind and spirit.

Motion in all directions has come along in my arm... if only 20% or so... but it's slowly healing without their non-treatment so I believe that's the way forward there... so I just move along.

There's a deal working if it all comes together. Any building or such here at Cochise is done and suspended. I'm likely going to Missouri, to spend some time at my daughter's place while I heal up some.

Heal up and regroup. See if I can see the way forward from another slap down. It took a year and more to dig into this hole... it'll be some time clawing my way back out.

I'm sorry to hear that things are not going much better at getting your VA appointment...I can hear the discouragement in your post. 20% use more in the arm, by taking care yourself thus far, is encouraging, if not enough to make your building there feasible this year...I am glad to hear you are going to your daughter's though. Perhaps the deal is with the horses being sold, or maybe they will be going to Missouri? Whichever it is, you WILL get well, and you WILL get to continue with your dream. Since I know you are not one to throw in the towel permanently, I expect you will, as Arnold says: "ah'll be back"...Hugs and safe travels.

I am very sorry to hear this news. Is the VA your only source for health care? I ask that possible stupid question because I don' t know your age. I am retired military and the VA would be the last place I go for health care. Do you have TriCare insurance as a possible option? I hope things work out for you and the horses.

I think you have a great solution already at hand for being able to stay on the land and still make progress while healing your shoulder up. You have posted about work camping...so get yourself a couple of them critters to help see you through this rough patch. You have a lot of followers who are in RVs and would enjoy the being off grid with the chance to learn how to work with the horses, tote bales, move rocks for the patio, build pens, water hauling, etc. It is a good future investment too as you would be grooming someone who could ranch sit for you if you need to leave for a few weeks to a month. Bring in two people, they can keep each other company while you work on your writing or go to doctor appointments or help you get back and forth to car repairs.

It's not forever and it sure beats loosing your dream just because of a temporary busted arm.
