What if's... Where to's... and What-cha-gonna Do's...

You're not thinkin' I've got the answers do you? ;) I mostly ask the questions and then go blundering into the confusion and see what happens!

Our "legal" time in this camp runs out Monday morning and our options are many... which is never a recipe for calm around me. Too many options for a wide eyed gypsy just leads to a lot of smoke and confusion!

We've been looking at two routes north. One would follow U.S. 395 up to and past Alturas into Oregon somewhere around Goose Lake...

Another would be to roll north of Yosemite, beyond where the road up over Tioga pass will remain closed until long after we pass... to swing west somewhere in the vicinity of Echo Summit. That would take us through a mixture of Casino Camping nights, State park camps, and the occasional lucky find, to move us out to the Pacific near where the Mad River hits the ocean and then up the coast into Oregon.

But... There's yet another option which would be to head toward Alturas... and then, once I've got Murphy thinking we've got our sights set on that place (so that he runs ahead to prepare a welcome) we cut off west near Susanville in the faint light of dawn and move up through Mt. Shasta and maybe find some new to us sights along the Klamath River...

Each option requires sacrificing the glories I know we'd find in any of the others... at least for this seasons wanderings... Too bad a drifters multiple personalities can't split off and travel other roads for a time and then rendezvous in some mountain camp to share their travels! :)

So... where are we headed? Ha! Your guess is purt near as good as mine! In the short term it'll be just a short haul north to the vicinity of Bishop or a bit farther, so we can make some shorter mile day trips into the area surrounding that burg.

All along U.S. 395 from below Lone Pine to as far as we can tell there seems to be Forest Service, BLM and county parks galore... as well as a myriad of dispersed camp, boondocking opportunities. I'm not far from being of the mind to just roll and see what presents. It's how we've always found the very best and unexpected places.

Too much planning excludes the survival of adventure!

...and anyway... It's a long northwest summer ahead... so no reason to get in a hurry that takes us rumbling past the sweet places to see and be that are right outside our windows!

But now... I gotta head out and see if I can remove a broken bolt from the Raider... and find a replacement in the lil' bitty hardware in Lone Pine! She needs to be ready to load Monday morning...

From yesterday's stroll across the desert...

The first bolt wasn't broke... it just came loose and I missed it 'fore it fell off!

This was an aftermarket that broke... you can't trust bolts even these days...

I wondered that very thing, too. I also have read about those counterfeit hardware makers.
