Mystery Turkeys, Birdies, Elk, Night Skies and... Incurably Itchy Feet...

That Wild Turkey Gal came by again... got a lil' better look at her... and I'm thinkin'... she ain't a born wild Thanksgiving Dinner...

*The Mystery Turkey*
There's a couple reasons I'm skeptical... first... she's just the wrong color... I've never seen a wild one that was nigh on to 50% white... and then... I can't ever remember, seein' a wild turkey... all alone. This gal is travelin' solo... Makes me think she's either an Escapee... or ... a turned loosee... Anybody recognize the variety?

There's other, interesting, lookin' birds 'round here too... there was that one on the bird feeder at the lodge restaurant the other day... and this colorful flapper flittin' 'round camp yesterday...

*One of our Utah Neighbors*
There's been blue birds, and red birds... Eagles and Ospreys... Buzzards and Swallows... if You're a Birder... Flaming Gorge seems like good country to look at a few of 'em.

We've been scoutin' around trying to put our eyes on a Moose or two... seems to be one of herself's priorities... only we've failed... I know they must be around... there's tracks all over in the places you'd expect to find a Moose... We've just not been able to get one in front of a camera...

We idled out of camp last night, just a short while 'fore dark... hoping to spot one catchin' supper up in Elk Meadow... There were a few Elk out in the marshy meadow... but no Mooses... and too dark by then to capture the Elk...

*Elk Meadow... and the Snow Capped Uintahs*

Across that meadow... just inside the treeline is a two track that we idled up... hopin' to see somethin' we'd not yet seen... the only thing, other than those Elk... was a Heron or Crane of some variety, walkin' around out in the meadow... in the oncoming dusk... who seemed to take real offense at my intrusion in to its suppertime...

That sucker squalled like a stepmother when I stepped out of the truck... "Ugly Cowboy!... Ugly Cowboy!"

Geeze... hurts a guys feelin's!

*Just a sliver of a moon over the Uintahs and Flaming Gorge*
Well... it's been an interesting couple of weeks... Pulled in to pretty poor weather, Sick enough for an ER visit... computer sick enough that it had to go to the computer ER, camps closed after we pulled in, 8" of snow,  video camera tribulations, trailer bound from weather, good progress on my current book... controversies and sunny days...

... and now... it's time to move on... Feet itchin'... and a tire waiting up in Hamilton, Montana... We're gonna likely roll Monday, though, you never know... I may get a wild hair tomorrow! ... and there's a nice Wal Mart in Green River... or new night camps to be found...

Restless and Gettin' Itchy to Roll...

That turkey is most unusual. But the western tanager surely belongs. Have a safe journey.

I saw a wild turkey all alone just one time but didn't have my camera. It was sitting on a fence just above a sign that said "No Hunting or Trespassing". Who said the turkey is the dumbest animal?
