Sharlotte asked a question... and I thought maybe some others might could be wonderin' the same thing... I thought I'd said it, but maybe I wasn't as plain as I'd thought... so... I'll clear that up right quick!
A long time ago... like 38 years... I came home, with Riding a new Motorcycle up the Alaskan Highway to Homer, as a Brain Straightening Dream. I was a 20 year old kid that was in pretty poor shape...
Now... I understand that a lot of folks are gonna ask; "How does putting your knees in the wind on a Motorcycle... for 9000 miles... straighten your brain?"...
My answer is an Old Motorcycle riders cliche'; "If I have to explain it... you won't understand"... Just accept, that for the people that do understand... It works! :o)
Well, back yonder in '72... Things ... conspired against me that first summer and ambushed the trip... and I allowed them to continue their conspiring for too long... like a lot of us do... and the Dream kind of slipped away... getting buried by life...
It was always there, just sitting in the back of my head... every once in a while poking me... Take a long, Solo, brain straightening, soul searchin' ride... all by my self... and spend that time... Inside my head... bein' honest with myself... and sort out all the Stuff... that had me cranked around when I was 20...
So... now... 38 summers later... all that Stuff (some of which got dug up last summer) ... having been un-attended to for all those years... is a pretty corroded mess! :o) ... but... Heidi and I decided/agreed... for the most part... that I have to make that ride... and put that ambition I've carried for so long into the reality of my history...Sort of a "Back to the Future" kind of deal...
So... Yes Ma'am Sharlotte! I'm making My Alaska by Raider Motorcycle trip... Solo... Just me... that bike... and my... corrosion! :o)
As soon as we circle back from the trip to Mark and Bobbies in Ouray, in July... I'll climb on that big Red Raider... twist the throttle... and roll. Nunn Colorado... to Homer Alaska!
The plans for after that are still pretty unsettled... we're hopin' to go north... maybe around Yellowstone... to finish out the season, before rolling south for the winter... we'll see what happens!

Sometimes a fellow has to do what he has to do!!! Enjoy! It will be the start of a new life... (or should i say the next chapter) BoB
Yup... The "Rest of the Story!" :o)
Alrightie, now i know. As long as Heidi is along on the planning and oking of the trip, then go for it. I know how important dreams are for people to accomplish. I did mine last year in Alaska when I had no less than 7 eagles in my viewfinder at one time and a whale sounding off the balcony. Funny, I remember standing there with tears running down my face and a great big stupid grin on my face. So, I wish for you many tears and many big grins on your face. Just have someone take pictures and share with the rest of us who are stuck at home, dreaming up new dreams!! You are going to be able to post pics of your camping areas huh?
You are very blessed to have Heidi for a partner and mate. Not many would let you ride off to Alaska by yourself, especially with "herself" having a ride of her own. LOL
