Ain't it Curious How Things Work Out?

Like a lot of folks, the past few years have been... uh ... difficult. ;o)

Three years + ago... we were setting up a new truck, flashin' up our gear, building up to leave... only to hit a wall and splat!... Now... three years down the road... we're knocked back to an old truck... the rig needs some TLC...

... the equity of the house... (Legitimate cost of construction price) ... Vanished... our income down at least 40%... not much of anything in the bank any more...

You know what? I couldn't care less!... I've got a fine and flashy 'new' Raider Motorcycle... Heidi is riding the 'old' V Star... Enjoying riding behind me more an' more... and "Riding her Own" as well... and we're slowly getting ready to leave... Anyway!... in just a few weeks!

You can call it Frugal RVing... or ... you can call it Poverty ... I'll just call it Living!

Things aren't as they were planned... hell, usually, 'things' seldom are when you really stop an' look at 'em...

and... As always, some folks think we're Nuts... though mostly, their "We"... is spelled... ME! :o) and who knows, maybe we (I) are a bit. But... I'd rather be nuts, and able to say, sitting in camp, out of breath... dirty... all scuffed up, with the bandaids not stickin' real well; "Gee... I hadn't thought that out real well... did I?!" :o) ...

...Than sitting in town... waiting safely for; "Things to get better".

Thing is... the worst that can happen is... we crash and burn... and have to start over... again. Been there done that... so it holds little fear... Nothing has ever flat footed "Stopped Me"... and I have no thought that anything... short of the Great Mystery... ever will...

The thing that does make my liver quiver... is the thought of looking back, another three years down my shortening road... and seeing me sitting here... still waiting, and Hoping...

UGH! ... Oh Lordy... just shoot me in the head... throw me in a box... and nail the lid shut!

So... Like Gus said... "We got enough cattle to stock five ranches... Let's just go on and go if we're goin' "

Now... I know other folks continue to wonder at the Alaskan Ride I'm takin'... solo... and I'm just comin' to understand that there's a goodly number of folks that are never gonna understand that lil' part of me...

Hell... Heidi don't truly understand it... but she knows me well enough to see that whatever "It" is, that's been drivin' my cowboy butt to make this ride... has to be fed... and I'm lucky enough for her to see that.

So... we follow our trail, the way We see it... We follow our trail to please US... not what "They" tell us is the Proper and Only way we can go... We may be wrong... we may have a tee total train wreck... but By God... It's OUR Train Wreck! :o)

... and at least... We'll have the stories to tell about it all... entertainin' those that took the Safe Road... when we're all campin' under that Bridge!

Take Good Care
Brian

Hey Brian, ignore the naysayers regarding the Alaska ride. You will find dozens (maybe hundreds!) of old farts up there doing the same thing as you. We were up that way last year and the woods were full of old bikers making "The Trip", enjoy yours. Heidi is wise to let you go on your own as she probably realizes how strenuous the trip would be unless stretched out over a couple months. We met one couple on two bikes who were doing the trip from New York to Alaska and back in two weeks or so.

Brian, I think you have your priorities in exactly the right place. Both for that Alaska trip (what a wonderful gal Heidi to encourage your going) and cutting loose to do your RV life. You gave the waiting 3 years and it wasn't time yet....now it is, and I applaud your throwing out that "let's git" because time waits for no man. Marching to your own drum beat is still good advice. So MARCH!!!
