But then... I remembered what a close friend once told me.. "No matter how dark the night...
*The Sun Always Rises* |
The Sun Always Rises..."
We're not trapped... a Fine Raider Motorcycle rests under the nose of the fiver... ready to roll whenever asked...
But... being here, with a broken truck... it's returned my thoughts to "Things"... and my Way...
*The Real World* |
I suppose it would be foolish of me to think that I'd erase 50+ years of training and conditioning... in a mere 4 or 5... or maybe even, ever.
Thing is... Society... The Beast... won't ever quit. No matter how little I pare my possessions down to... The beast will always be poking and prodding me to Restore my burden...
"Go get a newer and better truck... return to the security of a job for the man... do this... do that..." endless...
In the end, going back to simply working, with the only purpose being, the acquisition of a few dollars... for which you trade... Precious, ever rarer... irreplaceable... pieces of your life...
So... If I gave in to that pressure... if I followed that road... which is the road I've worked so hard to abandon... where would it lead? Where would it take me that it hadn't taken me already? How would it be different than the past? ... It wouldn't... It would only be... more of the same...
It's the moments like this... when you're knocked down and weary... that the way gets steepest. When the obedient masses call out; "See?! I told you ya couldn't do that!" When all those who don't understand, who can't comprehend, who want to turn you back in to the herd...
... when those who have chosen to remain on the treadmill of slavery... feel the closeness of their Victory... and start grasping... in almost manic glee at your difficulty...
... It's moments like this that you need to stop... take a breath and SEE... before you take your next step... It's moments like this that you must be ever watchful, that you don't stumble in your weariness and fear... and get pushed into doing something that you'll regret... You can get pushed into once again... seeking approval...
When the trail you've stepped off on gets rocky and narrow... it can get scary... and from a fearful camp you can get talked into retreating; "The path you're on is unwise... It's unsafe... It's unproductive... It makes no sense... it's foolish...You must serve society..." ... their exclamations and protests will beat you down and have you questioning your own worth...
...IF... you let 'em.
They'll have you riding back to the bogus and imaginary security that The Beast, and its' beaten down, obedient workers foist on all people... The security that isn't real... just a phony facade...
Something to remember and think on 'bout now is a thing that a long gone philosopher once wrote, Lao Tzu, I think his name was... it goes something like this; "If you live your life in pursuit of the approval of others... you become the property of those others."
That's not an exact quote... But the Philosophy is dead on.
So... I sit in the light of morning... and as I watch the dust kicks up... the wind starts wailing... as a the Storm arrives...
But... it's from the storm that the new grass grows... it's through the pain... that the fresh calves are born in the spring... it's after overcoming the fear and the struggle that you step out on the top of Angels Landing.
None of that would happen... without passing through the difficulty... if we retreated from the Fears...
We'd not have the pleasure of seeing...
The beauty within the storm...
Always remember... Your future is in your hands and no others. You can not control all... but ALL is not uncontrollable... Nothing happens if you don't move... Stagnation breeds more stagnation... Movement leads to more movement... No change comes without fear...
Embrace your own Future... Control what you can, deal with the consequences... grab the Fear... and backhand it across the room...
... and in the morning... as the Sun Rises... the Sweet Taste of Victory... only comes to those who never shirk the fight... it only comes to those who stand up to their fears...
The Sweet Taste of Freedom comes only to those who exercise the Courage... to climb over their fear... Walk along with me...
In the Light of the Sunrise

Love the picture with the rainbow... Sorry about your truck!
Ya got some great philosophies here, Brian. Inspirational in fact for us right now. Sorry 'bout the truck (know that feeling all too well), but think of all the things that could be so much worse!

Great post.
Think of some of the things that has happened to you in the last few years. The young friend you lost and the turmoil you've already gone through.
This too shall pass.
Kick that old Murphey fellow in the butt for me, will you? ;-)
Jim
Sure glad you got that woeisme out of your system. But I truly had faith it was just another life lesson. Who in their right mind would want to work 50+ weeks a year for a two week paid vacation, for Way too many years. Not me thank you.
And thanks for the inspiration. I'm stealing this from you, "embrace your own future...control what you can...deal with the consequences...grab the fear...and backhand it across the room." I'll be sharing this with my Mom who is going thru a new change in her life by moving to AZ at 84 with early dementia. She's scared, but also very strong. Thanks.
BTW, the photos are awesome, that rainbow Over the Top!
amen to that one!..might have to borrow a few of those quotes!
Thanks for the great words and advice.I wish I could live by them more than what I do.
Sure am sorry about the truck, but hoping it is gonna be an easy on the pocketbook fix.
You and Heidi have been through some hard times, but look on the bright side. You no longer have that ranch holding your head underwater, if you had to break down, it could have been in worse places (campground charging 30 a night), you have that beautiful bike to ride into town and get some grub if needed. You have solar power to keep you going, and a generator if it storms and rains too long. All in all, I think you are set up pretty nice. LOL
Keep all your friends and readers posted on things out in the desert. On the bright side, look at how much you are saving with free camping and the truck made a 50 mile trip and got 50 mpg. Haha not bad for an older girl. And look at the writing time you now have.
Keeping you and Heidi in my prayers.
Brian...
You must always remember...
"MURPHY WAS AN OPTIMIST"
Ad
hmmmmm... in this case... he shouldn't be so optimistic... the only thing more stubborn than that misbehaving Irish prankster... is a cranky ol' cowboy with a sore back! ... who now has enough "spare time" to go settin' out traps for the red headed lil' devil!!!! :)
What a rainbow! I can see the pot of gold shinin' through the trees. Can't you?

I loved it, very inspirational. After years of motorcycle and tent camping, my wife our dogs and I are about to begin our 2nd life, on the road.
I will definitely remember your post.
Powerful words.
